Strategy to Reduce Indianapolis’ Reliance on Foreign Oil
Former Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard charged us with developing a strategy to reduce or eliminate the city’s reliance on foreign oil.
We responded to this colossal initiative with a 3-tiered approach, and collaborated with high-level teams and partners to see it carried out efficiently and economically.
What we did:
+ Eliminated 100 vehicles from the city’s fleet and began replacing 425 other vehicles with plug-in hybrid or electric sedans
+ Worked to determine that compressed natural gas was the appropriate alternative fuel for heavy duty trucks like snow plows, dump trucks, and fire apparatus
+ Partnered with vehicle manufacturers to begin developing an alternatively-fueled, urban police car
